Double Recognition for GRyS Researcher Estela Mora-Barba at the XIX COITT Awards
We are very pleased to share that Estela Mora-Barba, a double graduate in Electronic Communications Engineering and Telematic Engineering from UPM, has received two awards in the XIX Premios Futuro de las Telecomunicaciones organized by the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Técnicos de Telecomunicación (COITT). The ceremony took place on April 24, 2026 at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid – Moncloa.
Estela won:
- First Prize in Telematic Engineering for her work “Smart management system for unmanned autonomous vehicles in precision agriculture on Edge”.
- Third Prize in Electronic Systems Engineering for her work “Device for generating prescription maps using embedded AI in precision agriculture”.
In her acceptance speech, Estela proudly represented our Teleco Campus Sur (ETSIST - UPM), the school where she studied and where GRyS is based. It was a special moment to be welcomed by our sister school, Teleco Moncloa (ETSIT - UPM), who hosted the ceremony with great warmth.
This is the second consecutive year that a student advised by professor Néstor Lucas Martínez achieves such a remarkable result. Last year, former student César García Moreno won two first prizes in the same two categories – an unprecedented milestone at the time. Estela continues that legacy with her own double recognition.
Estela is now a researcher in our GRyS group, working on the NexTArc Horizon Europe project. She is finishing her Master’s thesis with us and will join the group next year as a PhD student. Her dedication and talent are already making a difference.
We had the privilege of working with Estela throughout both projects, and it was a great honour to attend the award ceremony and see her receive these well-deserved prizes.
