🕊️ In Memoriam: José-Antonio Sánchez-Fernández
🌹 A Lifelong Commitment to the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
José-Antonio Sánchez-Fernández earned his Master Degree in Physical Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1989.
He soon joined the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), where he devoted his entire professional life with dedication, rigor, and a deep sense of service.
Throughout his distinguished career, José-Antonio held several key academic and administrative positions, including:
- Deputy Director for Research, Postgraduate Studies, and External Relations (Subdirector de Investigación, Postgrado y Relaciones Externas) at the former Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación (EUITT) — now the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería y Sistemas de Telecomunicación (ETSIST).
- Deputy Director for Economic Affairs (Subdirector de Asuntos Económicos) at the same institution.
- Acting Director (Director en funciones) of the EUITT.
- Adjunct to the Vice-Rector for Academic Management and Faculty Affairs (Adjunto al Vicerrector de Gestión Académica y Profesorado) at UPM.
- Academic Secretary (Secretario Académico) of the ETSIST.
His leadership and commitment were instrumental in the development of the School and in strengthening UPM’s academic and research structures.
🔬 Research and Group Involvement
José-Antonio was also a committed member of the Next-Generation Networks and Services (GRyS) research group, where he collaborated on projects and initiatives related to networked systems and telematic services.
His analytical perspective and institutional experience enriched the group’s multidisciplinary approach and research management capabilities.
💫 Legacy
José-Antonio passed away in September 2024, leaving behind a profound legacy of dedication, professionalism, and humanity.
He is remembered by colleagues, students, and friends for his generosity, calm leadership, and tireless support for the university community.
